Linebox Studio

Linebox Studio is an Ottawa-based architecture and interior design practice with nearly two decades of experience shaping how people live and work. Our work spans an unusually wide range of typologies: custom homes, mountainside chalets and lakefront cottages, heritage renewals, mid-rise mixed-use developments, office design, high-rise residential, and large-scale adaptive-reuse conversions of aging office towers into residential communities.

Our approach is grounded in essentialism: architecture as a purposeful response to place, function, and human character, never formulaic or trend-driven. We start every project by listening closely to the people who will inhabit the space, then translate that understanding into considered, solutions-first design. From designing around a protected plantation of wild garlic in Quebec to pushing innovation with Ottawa's first CLT home, Linebox responds to context with thoughtful, experienced design.

Signature elements recur across our portfolio: disciplined understanding of context, use of natural light, honest and enduring materials, and a considered dialogue between bold form and softened, human-scaled detail. Whether the project is an urban infill, a 139-unit building, or an office space, the same rigour and care apply.

This past year alone, our studio delivered two projects that could not be more different: a custom home built around daylight and family life, and a landmark office-to-residential conversion, while staying engaged in our community through sponsorships, in-kind design, and GOHBA programming. That combination of excellence, versatility, and civic commitment, sustained over nearly twenty years, is what distinguishes Linebox as a Designer of the Year.
