Best Adaptive/Inclusive Design

Housing Design Awards 2026 | GOHBA Housing Design Awards

Requirements

Projects entered in this category must be located within 150 km of Parliament Hill on the Ontario side. Any project outside this radius, or not located in Ontario (for example, Gatineau), must be submitted under the Anywhere in the World category.

This category recognizes thoughtfully designed homes or spaces that intentionally incorporate features supporting accessibility, inclusivity, adaptability, and occupant safety. It celebrates environments created to accommodate life's evolving needs, with a focus on ease of use, comfort, security, and the physical and mental well-being of those who inhabit them.

Eligible entries may include full homes or individual spaces that integrate accessible design elements such as barrier-free entries, ramps, widened hallways and doorways, roll-in showers, chair lifts, adaptable cabinetry, enhanced lighting, or other mobility-support features. Submissions may also highlight inclusive or safety-focused design solutions that promote independence, dignity, and long-term livability, ensuring homeowners can live safely and comfortably regardless of age, ability, family composition, or personal circumstances.

Successful entries will demonstrate thoughtful planning, practical functionality, and a commitment to creating environments that are welcoming, supportive, and resilient for all.
