Alternative Enclosed Space

Housing Design Awards 2026 | GOHBA Housing Design Awards

Requirements

Projects entered in this category must be located within 150 km of Parliament Hill on the Ontario side. Any project outside this radius, or not located in Ontario (for example, Gatineau), must be submitted under the Anywhere in the World category.

Entries in this category recognize enclosed, secondary structures that are located on the same lot as a principal dwelling and serve as complementary or accessory spaces. These self-contained environments are distinct from the main residence and may support a variety of functions that enhance the overall use, livability, or functionality of the property. Eligible submissions may include, but are not limited to, coach houses, boathouses, workshops, pool houses, secondary dwelling units, tiny homes, and both attached and detached garages.

Please note: Coach Houses and Tiny Homes may be submitted either under the Custom Home category or the Alternative Enclosed Space category, but not both. Each project will be accepted in only one category. Entries submitted under the Alternative Enclosed Space category may be subject to reclassification at the discretion of the judges.
